Position DescriptionThe Department of Community, Family, and Addiction Sciences in the College of Health and Human Sciences (CHHS) at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, assistant professor of practice position in the Addictive Disorders and Recovery Studies (ADRS) undergraduate program, with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2025. We welcome all applicants with demonstrated effectiveness as teachers, who possess clinical or teaching experience in mental health or addiction recovery counseling and have a record of professional service.
Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong records of teaching in counseling, addiction, recovery sciences, or other related mental health fields, as well as have experience with teaching online courses and working with diverse student populations and first-generation students.
Major/Essential Functions
At Texas Tech University, the Professor of Practice title is used to recruit individuals with exceptional backgrounds and achievements in academic, business, government, or other professional practice. Primary responsibilities normally will be to teach in an area of expertise, mentor students in professional and career preparation, and liaise with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department or program.
Required Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
1. Earned doctorate in a field related to mental health counseling (e.g., couple and family therapy, addictive disorders and recovery studies, psychology, counseling), or a closely related mental health profession at time of appointment
2. Evidence of effectiveness as a teacher
3. Experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses
4. Possess clinical or teaching experience in mental health or addiction recovery counseling
5. Ability to mentor undergraduate students as evidenced by previous mentoring experience.
6. Ability to work with the CSAR Business Manager in the organization of the McKenzie Lectureship. Oversee the presentation selections, graduate poster presentations, and any logistical needs for the lectureship as evidenced by previous conference experience.
7. Experience in research collaboration

Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
1. Experience with teaching online courses
2. Experience working with diverse student populations and first-generation students
3. Possession of a mental health practitioner license (e.g., LMFT, Licensed Psychologist, LCSW, LPC, LCDC)
4. Experience in outreach and training
5. Experience in grant identification and applications
6. Ability to supervise the research assistants in CSAR as evidenced by a previous supervisory role.
7. Ability to work with Director of CSAR in the development of research agenda, impact statement, program evaluation as evidenced by publications and experience with strategic planning.
8. Ability to serve on the CSAR scholarship committee as evidenced by previous work with individuals in addiction recovery that are pursuing education.
