Job Summary:
The Advanced Immunology & Immunotherapeutics Advanced Science Course (ASC) Assistant Director for the University of Colorado School of Medicine is responsible for working with the other ASC Course Directors, faculty, departments, curriculum deans and other SOM personnel to create, implement, evaluate, and continuously improve components of the ASC curriculum in which they have expertise.
The ASC portion of the new Trek medical student curriculum consists of four Advanced Science Courses that are integrated together across a semester. This required learning occurs for students between their core clerkship experience and their USMLE Step 1 preparation and examination period at the beginning of their third year of medical school. The ASCs run for 13 weeks in August - November of each academic year.
Each of the following four ASCs have 2-3 Course Directors at the main campus.
- Connections in Cardiology
- Advanced Immunology & Immunotherapeutics
- Advanced Neurosciences
During the ASCs, students learn advanced science concepts in the three pillars of the Trek curriculum: Basic Medical Science, Clinical Science, Health System Science (called Health & Society at CUSOM). Students spend 1 day per week in didactics and the rest of their time in related specialty clinical experiences.
The ASC Assistant Director will report directly to the Assistant Dean for Medical Education- Post-clerkship Curriculum.
This position will supervise faculty that teach within the ASC and participate in dotted line reporting for university professional staff who support development of student and course scheduled.
Key Responsibilities:
Administration
- Oversee comprehensive orientation for students, covering course content, scheduling, assessment, grading, and execution, while ensuring course offerings meet student needs.
- Act as a resource and maintain timely communication with students, staff, and faculty.
- Manage faculty involved in the course, including assigning duties, providing performance feedback, and addressing any issues to support effective teaching and course delivery.
Curriculum Execution and Program Innovation
- Ensure all teaching faculty and students are aware and understand competencies and learning goals.
Curriculum Review, Continuous Quality Improvement, and Accreditation
- Track and assess ASC components to identify improvement areas, supporting ongoing quality enhancement in alignment with curriculum oversight bodies.
- Collaborate with the AEO to evaluate curriculum effectiveness, review course evaluations annually, and provide faculty with feedback and action plans for development.
Student Assessment and Grading
- Establish clear expectations for student performance to facilitate competency-based grading in the ASC.
- Assist faculty in delivering fair, effective assessments and ensure prompt grade submissions for all students.
Faculty Recruitment, Support & Development
- Recruit and develop faculty to teach in the ASC curriculum.
- Provide ongoing feedback, support, and remediation as needed to faculty
Work Location:
Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule as needed for teaching and in-person meetings.

Instructor:
- M.D. or D.O. Degree or equivalent with a concentration in healthcare and education and medical licensure in the State of Colorado.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:
Instructor- $10,000- $30,000 as 0.10-0.15 FTE equivalent in salary support plus benefits not to exceed the educational cap of $200,000.
Sr. Instructor- $10,000- $30,000 as 0.10-0.15 FTE equivalent in salary support plus benefits not to exceed the educational cap of $200,000.
Assistant Professor- $10,000- $30,000 as 0.10-0.15 FTE equivalent in salary support plus benefits not to exceed the educational cap of $200,000.
Associate Professor- $10,000- $30,000 as 0.10-0.15 FTE equivalent in salary support plus benefits not to exceed the educational cap of $200,000.
Professor- $10,000- $30,000 as 0.10-0.15 FTE equivalent in salary support plus benefits not to exceed the educational cap of $200,000.
