Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing Mental Health counseling services to Gordon State College students.

Responsibilities
  • Provides students with mental health counseling.
  • Maintains confidential records of studentsessions.
  • Develops and facilitates structured groups, workshops, presentations, and counseling outreachprograms.
  • Provides crisis counseling tostudents.
  • Identifies and develops appropriate communityreferrals.
  • Promotes the adoption of healthy lifestyle choices for mental, emotional and socialhealth.
  • Supports students with evaluations of admission withdrawals, deferrals andtransfers.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of policies andprocedures.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings.
  • Participates in continuing education as mandated by Georgia state licensure.
  • Performs related duties asassigned.

    Required Qualifications
  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a master's degree in a Counselingfield.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship and having had a similar position for oneyear.
  • Licensed as a LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) in the State ofGeorgia.
  • This position is 100% in person.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of counseling services in the context of highereducation.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws related to counseling and disabilityservices.
  • Knowledge of counseling principles as related to at-risk populations andcrises.
  • Knowledge of University System of Georgia Board of Regents policies andprocedures.
  • Skill in the provision of counseling services to a diverse studentbody.
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job-related softwareprograms.
  • Skill in decision-making andproblem-solving.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with thepublic.
  • Skill in oral and writtencommunication.

    Salary range for Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC): $60,000 - $62,000


    This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt (salaried) staff position and includes a comprehensive benefits package. Benefits include:

    Guidelines include counseling code of ethics, College Counseling Association guidelines, Counseling Director Association guidelines, federal and state laws, and University System and college policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application.
