Job Summary
Responsible for processing financial aid for students by reviewing documents, evaluating eligibility and awarding various types of federal and state financial aid. Responsible for meeting with students and families to explain the financial aid process, along with answer questions regarding financial aid awards and required documents.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides assistance to students and parents/guardians who are seeking and/or receiving financial aid
2. Advises students about financial aid eligibility, application procedures, available financial aid programs, educational costs, and financial management strategies, including loans, financing options, and other financial aid related matters
3. Counsels students and parents/guardians regarding financing an education at the University
4. Reviews student applications for accuracy and completeness
5. Ensures compliance with laws and regulations regarding financial aid
6. Responds to inquiries and researches and resolves issues related to transactions
7. Researches and assists with issue resolution related to federal and state systems
8. Maintains appropriate documentation via data entry system (Campus Logic, NOLIJ, Banner, etc.)
9. Participates in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures that impact the efficiency and quality of services provided
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education
Required Experience
On-the-job training provided
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience
An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field
Previous Financial Aid Office experience preferred
Previous customer service experience preferred
Experience working with student populations preferred
Working and tested knowledge of Banner (Ellucian) preferred

Able to deal with multiple tasks or projects at one time and prioritize based on importance
KNOWLEDGE
Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of financial aid at the federal, state and institutional levels
Working knowledge of and abides by the regulations of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Higher Education Act of 1965 as amended (HEA)
Understanding of CPS, EDE, NSLDS, COD, Surfer
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of state and federal laws, rules and regulations pertaining to financial aid; attend seminars, conferences, workshops and other training sessions
SKILLS
Strong conflict management and resolution skills - specifically the ability to diffuse difficult, angry, or emotional situations with individuals
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, technology, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e. Microsoft Office suite, BANNER, NolijWeb, etc)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone/email etiquette
