SUMMARY:
The Department of Counseling at Texas A&M-Commerce is seeking a faculty member for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in School Counseling. This is a 9-month tenure-track position which will begin Spring 2021. In addition to teaching, faculty at Texas A & M University-Commerce are required to conduct scholarly activities, work cooperatively with others, and contribute service to their discipline, the university, and the community.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach masters or doctoral level courses in counseling;
- Publish research;
- Advise students;
- Prepare syllabi, update course materials and develop curriculum;
- Deliver instruction both online and on any of the university campuses.
- Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to implement departmental programs;
- Provide service to the department, college, university and public schools, and community;
- Maintain knowledge and stay abreast of current trends in professional licensure/certification rules and regulations, learning with research, best practices in teaching, and technological applications in the classroom, including online teaching.
- On-site supervision of school counseling interns; and
- Recruitment of prospective school counseling students;
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Receive doctorate in Counseling or Counselor Education from a CACREP accredited doctoral program
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team of professionals. Good written and oral communication skills. Commitment to high quality teaching. Dedication to high standards and student success.
- Experience as a school counselor in Texas
- Certified School Counselor
PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
- Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas
- University level teaching experience.
- Online teaching experience.
- Several years of experience as a school counselor
- Demonstration of research in school counseling
- Experience mentoring school counselors or school counselor interns
- Experience supervising school counselors or school counselor interns
- Familiarity with and knowledge of local school district policies and trends in school counseling
- Potential to network with directors of school counseling in Texas
- Demonstration of active participation in counseling professional organizations
